  1. Hydrogen is the new LTS version of Friend, and the first version that applies our new naming scheme – picking names from the periodic table. Hydrogen will see updates for the next two years – released as patches to this branch. Friend Core updates New networking engine – ultra fast and reliable HTTP connections and more reliable socket connections with less packet errors. This has sped up all networking in Friend. Additionally, server-to-server connections now all use SSL. Even faster websockets – real-time, persistent Friend server connections. We updated to the latest Libwebsockets version, which in concert with our rewritten network engine has seen great improvements in speed and reliability. Support for 2+GB uploads – start migrating large archives to Friend drives. Friend Chat improvements Follow speaker mode now allows for a larger amount of participants in peer-to-peer video conferences. Mobile support has been improved. Support for iOS have been introduced. Many bug fixes! For further details check out github:FriendChat and github:Presence Friend Workspace We have refactored the file manager and added a gallery mode for large thumbnails. We added icon labels for virtual desktops. Further improved Workspace notifications with a fixed height, to avoid layout problems on some screens. Removed popup-windows on mobile and instead implemented mobile widgets. Faster start-up times for launching applications. Improved caching of frequently used assets and javascript code blocks. Improved mobile apps for iOS and Android. Collaboration Introduced new Shared drive that allows users to share any file with any workgroup or user. Now supporting public files (publish on web) for both Home drives as well as Workgroup drives. Misc improvements Improved Admin app for managing Friend user accounts, workgroups and templates. My account got support for unicode characters for avatars. Security improvements. Stability improvements. And lots more! Friend OS Hydrogen got changes to many of its bundled apps, like Notes, Friend Jukebox, My account, Friend Create, Friend Shell. Please check the release page here.
  2. Welcome to the forum! Hope you enjoy your stay here. I'm sure there's room for ambitious discussions in our off topic categories. I hope you will find what you need with Friend OS, and I hope you can help us improve it.
  3. Welcome to the Friend-Nexus, @jlescribanoc! Hope you'll enjoy your stay! Hope you are staying safe!
  4. I updated the link. See if that works better?
  5. Really? I just clicked it and I got right in. Could it be you haven't got an account on Discord?
  6. Dear Friend-Nexus members! We just released a new video to showcase the Friend Home Office! Please like and share it in your channels.
  7. We really want this to happen - but we haven't had time yet to commit to a progressive web app or Electron app, e.g. Any takers? I'd support such an initiative in the community for sure.
  8. So here we are. A couple of weeks into Corona Virus. Spring never felt so naked. I'm looking outside my window from my home office, and the streets are almost empty. Few airplanes are flying above. Many choose to go to the forest, to the beach. They don't stay around outside of their homes. They are either inside or a drive away. In Friend, productivity has gone up since we implemented home office about two weeks ago. There's a little bit of a mixed bag of experiences - some find it tedious, and some find it less stressful. Having moved most of our work to the Friend Workspace, we're equally equipped at home or at the office. We have our chatrooms - our ad hoc video calls and planning meetings. Things are working really well technically. I'm kindof wondering how corona will change how we work after the fact. I think more people will be working from home, personally. I know for sure that I'd want to. I think it's easier to concentrate. Easier to find peace of mind. And online meetings work surprisingly well. How's your experience working from home?
  9. @Pawel may shed some light on this. You need to build the third party libraries.
  10. So Friend is a "Network Operating System". That runs like a web server. With a brain inside of it. That knows about user accounts, user session states and that kind of stuff. And when you point your browser to a domain that runs Friend Core, it displays the Friend OS in your browser tab. What does that mean? The Internet is still a *new* phenomenon. It really and totally is! Because - it is still changing stuff, without itself changing much. The internet of today - architecturally and by design - is practically the same as in 1997. Really. If a programmer would know what could be done with TCP/IP and UDP (old inventions of the old Internet) - years hence - things that we use every day in the present could have been made and distributed back when. The distribution model of the ancient Internet remains the same today as when people were playing Diablo I on a Pentium computer with 16 megs of RAM. Or an Amiga 1200 with 4 megs of RAM. It hasn't changed fundamentally. Yes, back in 1997, school kids in the jungle of India wouldn't access social networks on their phones. Migrants of war wouldn't film the guards at the border crossings with their Internet enabled phones. But - the network was already there. Friend is a system that you can install into the Internet. Yes it is installed on a machine - virtual or physical - that is connected to the Net. But it's resources may connect to abstract systems - systems that may interact - across the Net. Thus - things you may interact with on a Friend system may not be located in any country. It may be entirely abstracted from fragments that emit from all over the world. This changes everything. It bends juristiction. It bends the mind for sure. This is a personal Cloud Computer in the Sky Computing paradigm. A Friend system may run Apps, Storage and Services that runs from "Not-in-any-country". This is the next paradigm.
  11. Hehe - and at the end of the video - mutual multiple lawsuits enqueued with the authorities. :)
  12. Haha, yes, it may be my immanent fear 😉
  13. I remember that some years ago, I discussed the future of AI etc with some friends. I imagined that the day would come when people would sue each other for the slightest thing, and use AI to perform the suits. In such a reality, every person would have a myriad of lawsuits upon them at any given moment - countersuing with AI. Subscriptions to different AI lawyers would rise, and it would be a huge market to keep people afloat. Then I read this today: https://yro.slashdot.org/story/20/03/05/1541218/for-3-a-robot-lawyer-will-sue-data-brokers-that-dont-delete-your-personal-and-location-info I guess that future just started. What could possibly go wrong?
